The Avoided Deforestation program tries to help what remains from the nature areas in Brazil, like the Araucaria Forest.
It's known that trees are very important against the global warming, due to its carbonic gas storing capacity and oxigen release. Besides that, trees are essential to preserve the biodiversity and protecting the river shores.
Considering how important trees are to the environment, planting tress became a good option for people who want to cooperate, somehow, to the environmental balance. However, this isn't the only way people can contribute, because joining programs which encourage the end of deforestation and consequently protecting the native forests is also a great support that everyone can offer to the planet.
According to Solano Aquino, president of IBFLORESTAS, it is important to not cut trees down, because when a tree is cut, all of the absorved carbon oxide on its structure will be released back to the atmosphere.
Nowadays, Research Society in Wild Life and Environmental Education( SPVS in portuguese) has worked on an important programa to reduce the deforestation. the 'Avoided Deforestation Campaign' works for the nature conservation, helping to protect what remains of the brazilian natural areas, such as the Araucaria Forest, due to its potential to compensate emission gases that are responsible of the global warming phenomenon and its importance to keep high the biological diversity.
According to Denilson Cardoso, coordinator of the Avoided Deforestation, the Campaign involves owners of well-conserved areas and helps them to protect their areas by financial support given by enterprises interested in compensate their greenhouse effect emission gases."The project already has 20 owners and offers monthly resources for them, and offers a management plan to guide the activities on the area", he details.
Cardoso shows that in Brazil there are only 0.5% of Araucaria areas; 8 years ago, the number was 9% of areas with this specie.
The coordinator of the program thinks that keeping the native areas that remain is a way of fighting against the weather changes and an urgent need to protect the natural heritage, which is responsible to shelter incountable living forms of plants and animals.More than that, it can offer environmental services that are essential tp the human life quality: water, energy, food, security against natural disasters, scientific discovery, among others.
Araucaria Forest
General Characteristics
Without a doubt, the presence of the Araucaria Forest is the most distinguished element of the brazilian south vegetation. The plateaus are the best habitat for them, and big rivers valley are avoided. In this region there are high rainfall levels and moderate temperaturesand the araucaria species occurs in various types of soil.Gerenally the amount of humus is high. The araucaria specie prefers shallow groundwater.
Degradation
This is the most important region for the forest and timber extraction economy. The araucaria and imbuia species are used by the furniture and pulp (paper) industries. The wood exploration is the direct responsible for the imbuia extinction threat, like the the Pinheiro-do-Paraná (Parana pine), which is of the most extracted species of th southern region of Brazil.Without leaving reserves in their its place, the destruction of these forests are raising more and more the precipitation levels of the southern region.
Due to blending,,the felling of trees on steep slopes, the burning of pastures for training and installation of industries, provokes landslides and floods, which the man turns out to be the main victim.
