An action that helps to compensate and even reduce the environmental impacts caused by the operation of enterprises

It is not since today that lengthy discussions have been caught on the importance of environmental preservation, as well as the instruments to be adopted to maintain the environmental balance. In 1988, the Federal Constitution shows his concern for the environment. In Sao Paulo,for example, various complementary techniques of floristic surveys,rescue,destination of living plants and restoration of degradated areas have been developed for the construction of Rodoanel - South Section, as a way to reduce the environmental damages caused by the work.

According to Daniel Marcondes, manager of Dersa environmental division, one of the environmental conditioners that tries mitigation and environmental compensation is the execution of the 1016 ha compensatory planting with native forest species, due to a 212 hectares of native vegetation supression, in the middle or middle-avanced stages of regeneration."The objective is saving the specific and genetic biodiversity to promove a quality reforestation with a great chance to reach the balance and the perpetuation of the implanted forest",he says.

He also says that, from the Reforestation Program managed by Dersa, there are the selection of areas that have environmental significancy,such as areas that can promote the restoration and conectivity of forest fragments, of the Direct Influence Area or in the Indirect Influence Area and of the public domain;the implementation or the adequacy of forest nurseries; the formulation of executive plantation projects; the acquisition, supply and execution of native seedling trees of the Atlantic Forest Biome, as well as the maintenance of reforested areas in a 24 month period; their enclosure, when necessary; technical training and the involvement of the prefecture. Approximately 2,5 million of natives species seedling trees will be planted on the 1016 ha, considerating the need of replacement.

For Marcondes, these works - like this one developed by Dersa - are not simply meant for meeting the stablished condition to the concession of related environmental licenses, but also associates the technical-scientific environmental question, once that it follows the stablished orientations by the Resolution SMA 08/08, fixing the orientation for this activity and give correlated providences to the Sao Paulo State. More than that, it provides technical-scientific orientation made the staff of the Sao Paulo Botanic Institute.

Important details such as diversity and quality of seedlings, indication of more than 80 species recommended for a given acreage, use of a key decision on the best procedure to be adopted in reforestation, etc are some remarkable examples. Also, there are researchers to a sampling system and evaluations for the review and monitoring the compensatory reforestation, aimed at the guarantee and perpetuation of the planted forest, and the environmental quality improvement.

The activities were initiated with the work, but the actual implementation of the plantation started around the year of 2009, and its finalization will be in 2012, considering the 24 month maintenance.Nowadays, (data last updated on 02/08/2010) there are 702.58 ha of planted area among the total of 1016 ha, wich was solicited by the environmental condition.
