Transport sector starts to contribute on environmental projects that compensate their impact on the nature

As we know, since the beggining of the rebublic, the governments give priority to the road transport, leaving the rail and fluvial transports and a seconde priority.This resulted in many roads, and it brought a great impact to the environment.

The will to create a transport network connecting all places of the country was born inside developed democracies, specially Getulio Vargas's and Juscelino Kubitscheck.Back in that time, the emblem of modernity and the advanced machines in terms of transport was the automobilies.This called a special attention from the governors in the roads construction.Since then, Brazil has its network based on road transport.

According to informations from the National Department of Transport Infrastructure, There are around 1.712.025 Km of paved roads in Brazil.However, along the reached development by the construction of these roads, incountable forests have been devastaded. Moreover, with the intense traffic of thousands of truck fleets, buses and automobiles, the transport sector became the responsible of great amount of CO2 emission, by burning fossil fuels. On the other hand,today the transport enterprises are being to see the need to make compensatory projects.

Rosemary Pancia,owner of the enterprise, explains that, together with the Green initiative (Iniciativa Verde), - a Civil Society Organization of Public Interest, title given by the brazilian Justice Ministry - they will plant around 1423 native seedling trees as a way to compensate the carbonic gas emission released by burning diesel."More than planting trees, we are executing a voluntary action of using biodiesel in our fleet",she says.

According to Lucas Pereira, Iniciativa Verde inventory technician, by planting trees, it will not only compensate the truck fleets traffic, but will also compensate all the actions the enterprise realizes, including the staff transporte.

In the city of Londrina, the Viacao Garcia enterprise has done environmental actions to contribute the environmental preservation. Paulo Cesar Guandelini, environmental analist of Garcia, shows that, three years ago, the enterprise began these actions."We started activities such as planting trees and doing a significant reduce on the plastic cup use in the enterprise, the 'eco mug' (originally: Caneca Ecologica)", he mentions.

Guardelini also reports that about a hundred trees were planted around the Norte lake and more 70 native seedling trees were planted in the front of Garcia enterprise. Applying the 'eco mug' project, they reduce the use of 2 million plastic cups per year, to a number between 10 and 15 thousands of cups per year.

Besides that, since 2007, the 'Cleanse Project' (originally Projeto Despoluir), the enviromental project of the Garcia Group, controls and regulates, when necessary, all the buses of the three enterprises members of the Group. All the buses are released from the manufactures equipped with eficient eletronic injection systems, one of the great advances against pollution produced by the vehicle, which can now run for up to six years without showing any problem about pollution emission excess.
